Beverly Vista School

HOME

Welcome to the BV K-8 Vocal Music website. My name is Judith Chan and this is my 25th year of teaching music and my 16th year at Beverly Vista. I have a Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy and a Master in Music Education. I have also studied in Australia and had extensive training in the Kodály methodology. I grew up singing in a children’s chorus and have performed with the California Bach Society and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. It is my belief that every child should have access to the highest quality of music education and this opportunity should be offered at school and not by chance.  Research has shown that students who are musically literate can often be better learners in other subjects. While performing is an important aspect in music, my focus in the music room will always be about music literacy.   At Beverly Vista, all elementary classes have music once a week. K-3rd grades have 30 minutes and 4/5th grades have 50 minutes once a week. The middle school chorus elective is offered to 6-8th grade and we meet every day. We also offer two chorus ensembles for the elementary grades: Junior Choir (2nd and 3rd Grades) and the District Honor Choir (4th and 5th Grades). Please feel free to click on the links on this page to find out more details of all our programs. The best way to contact me is to email me at jchan2@bhusd.org. I am always looking for parent volunteer to help out as our choral program continues to grow. Please let me know if you are interested. I look forward to another year of music making with your child.
