Dear Parents and Students,
What an exciting year this is for everyone! For parents, it is another year of involvement and observation of your child’s growth and success in academic and social ways. For students, it is a year of new things to learn, skills to improve, and a community to build. For me, it is a year of excitement and challenge in a new position as Math Specialist.
To give you some background, this is my 19th year teaching! I have called BV my home for 13 years, teaching 4th and 5th grades. I also taught Kindergarten and 4th grade at St. Brendan School in Hancock Park before arriving at BV. I received my B.A. in Journalism, studying abroad in London and Spain, as well as receiving my M.A. in Education and M.S. in Administration from Pepperdine University. I have also completed additional graduate level courses through the University of San Diego to brush up on educational theory and practice. As you can see, I believe learning is a lifelong endeavor!
I have been involved in various ways during my many years at BHUSD. I am currently a Beginning Teacher Support Provider for the district, on the Professional Development and Technology Committee at the District Office. I was Site Council Facilitator for the past two years and also served on the Leadership Team at BV. I was the 4th Grade Level Specialist, leading colleagues in professional development focused on Common Core Standards. I have also been Service Learning Advocate and worked as the Elementary Curriculum Coordinator, working with the Ed. Services Dept. to improve our curriculum and report card. I am a member of the CA Writing Project and had the privilege of working in Sacramento advising representatives on the state writing test. I worked at UCLA with teachers from Shanghai, China in a collaboration project about Project Based Learning. When I’m not working, I love to travel, exercise, read and enjoy life with my husband and our 7-year-old daughter, Melanie, who is a first grader at BV and 4-year-old son, Liam who is in preschool.
I am thrilled to return to the highly academic and friendly environment of BV, especially in a new position! It is my deepest aspiration that we will support and guide each other in a way that will provide a warm and secure environment where maximal learning can take place. It is my goal that we work together to make this year a success. Your constant interest will play an important role in your child’s learning success.
I look forward to an amazing year of growth with wonderful students, parents and BV community! Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions or concerns by emailing at firstname.lastname@example.org. And don’t forget to subscribe to this webpage for lots of Math news!
