Dear Parents and Students,

What an exciting year this is for everyone!  For parents, it is another year of involvement and observation of your child’s growth and success in academic and social ways.  For students, it is a year of new things to learn, skills to improve, and a community to build.  For me, it is a year of excitement and challenge in a newly renamed position as Intervention TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment).

To give you some background, this is my 20th year teaching!  I have called BV my home for 14 years, teaching 4th and 5th grades, as well as Math Intervention last year.  I also taught Kindergarten and 4th grade at St. Brendan School in Hancock Park before arriving at BV. I received my B.A. in Journalism, studying abroad in London and Spain, as well as receiving my M.A. in Education and M.S. in Administration from Pepperdine University.  I have also completed additional graduate level courses through the University of San Diego to brush up on educational theory and practice. As you can see, I believe learning is a lifelong endeavor!

I have been involved in various ways during my many years at BHUSD, such as Beginning Teacher Support Provider, Professional Development and Technology Committee Member, Grade Level Specialist, and Elementary Curriculum Coordinator at the District Office. I have also served as Site Council Facilitator, Instructional Leadership Team Representative, and Service Learning Advocate at BV. I am a member of the CA Writing Project and had the privilege of working in Sacramento advising representatives on the former fourth grade state writing test.  I worked at UCLA with teachers from Shanghai  in a collaboration project on Project Based Learning. When I’m not working, I love to travel, exercise, read and enjoy life with my husband and our 7-year-old daughter, Melanie, who is a second grader at BV and 4-year-old son, Liam who is in TK here at BV.

I am thrilled to return to the highly academic and friendly environment of BV, especially in a new classroom (D217)!  It is my deepest aspiration that we will support and guide each other in a way that will provide a warm and secure environment where maximal learning can take place.  It is my goal that we work together to make this year a success.  Your constant interest will play an important role in your child’s learning success.

I look forward to an amazing year of growth with wonderful students, parents and BV community!  Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions or concerns by emailing at vhanlon@bhusd.org. And don’t forget to subscribe to this webpage for lots of Intervention news!

Thank you,

Mrs. Victoria Hanlon
