BEVERLY VISTA SCHOOL
August 1, 2016
Dear Beverly Vista Families,
On behalf of the Beverly Vista faculty and staff, it is my honor to welcome you to the 2016 – 2017 school year! I hope you have had a restful and enjoyable summer break and that your children have been engaged in enriching activities and are recharged for the coming year.
This year at Beverly Vista we will work diligently to continue the legacy of success established over the years by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners. We will continue to focus on 21st Century skills; further implement the Pyramid of Success character development program; instill a sense of responsibility to others and community through service learning activities; celebrate achievement at the Bulldogs’ Best Awards and the middle school academic awards ceremonies; continue to maintain a nurturing and safe campus environment; use data to guide instruction; and provide exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students. Additionally, this year we are adding both a dedicated English/Language Arts intervention specialist and a Math intervention specialist in the elementary grades. This will allow us the ability to expand and refine our program of early intervention and will assist us in providing effective support for those students who may require a little more. A middle school intervention class in English/Language Arts and Math will be provided in the middle school, as well as before and after school tutoring for those students requiring additional assistance. Over the last couple of years we have added successful programs that have improved the quality of your children’s experience at Beverly Vista. We are excited to continue this progress by going deeper into the Project Lead the Way K-5 STEM curriculum; build upon the success of BV’s first annual “Run for Success” with a focus on healthy living; continue to offer enrichment opportunities for our students in the GATE program; and, once again, provide our students the opportunity to participate in the Beverly Hills Science Fair (formerly the Beverly Vista Science Fair).
You may have noticed an abundance of activity on our campus over the summer. While families and staff have been enjoying the much-needed break our facilities have been receiving some much-needed attention. In partnership with the AYSO Region 76 we have replaced and expanded our turf field. This new field space now contains two U-10 size soccer fields and will provide our students ample space to move about during physical education classes and at recess. Due to the field expansion much of the old and unused asphalt area has been removed. Also, the playground area has been resurfaced and the courts have been restriped. In addition, the entire campus of our beloved BV has been given a beautiful fresh coat of paint. Finally, we have installed safety railings and anti-skateboard devices in the Atrium along with many other smaller projects that are improving the safety and overall aesthetics of the campus. And there is more to come soon.
In addition to the above mentioned improvement projects there is a remediation effort underway to address a long-occurring drainage issue between the E and D buildings. It has recently been determined that the timeline to remediate the E-Deck area will be sometime between three to five months. I have arranged to have the four classrooms on the E-Deck moved to other rooms on campus. The Multi-Purpose Room will also be closed until the project has been completed. There will be NO interruption of instruction and there will NOT BE any temporary classrooms on the Beverly Vista campus.
Beverly Vista’s outstanding teachers create the foundation for your children’s academic success. In addition, a large part of Beverly Vista’s success is attributed to its robust and engaged PTA. Please consider contributing to the BV PTA so that we can continue to fund stimulating programs in science and technology, music festivals, field trips, enrichment programs, assemblies, and much needed equipment and supplies in our classrooms. Your donations directly affect your child’s education. Last year alone your contributions enabled us to provide enrichment programs like Polymer Pat and Science Olympiad, equipment, supplies, computers and iPads, musical instruments, and allowed us to improve our school library. Additionally, because of your generosity we installed two phases of short-throw interactive digital projectors in the classrooms. We urge you to not only become a member of the PTA, but also contribute to BV Pride so that we can continue to provide our students with a world-class education. Please visit the Beverly Vista website at http://bv.bhusd.org/pta/ to sign up for our weekly PTA newsletter and to learn of the many opportunities available to volunteer at Beverly Vista.
I anticipate a most successful year for our students as our excellent team of educators and staff, Assistant Principal Alyssa Para, and I support the academic, social, and emotional growth of your child. I believe that when we all work positively together with a common purpose in mind our children can only benefit. This year I am asking that all of our parents and guardians play a role in the important task of providing our students with the idea that setting goals is the first critical step on the road to personal success and that hard work is the catalyst to their achievement. A focus on steady attendance, good work habits, healthy living, and a positive attitude are key components to your child’s progress.
Finally, you and your family are invited to our “Welcome Back Pancake Breakfast” on Sunday, August 14th at 9:00 AM, sponsored by the Beverly Vista PTA. We will also be posting this year’s class lists! Come and find out who your child’s teacher will be!
As always, my door is open to you and I welcome your valuable input. Please feel free to contact me via email at email@example.com or call to make an appointment to speak with me in person to discuss any ideas you feel will make this the best year yet!
I look forward to partnering with you this year in providing an outstanding education for your child.
